Dear South County EDC Members and Partners,
As we bid farewell to an extraordinary year, I am filled with immense
gratitude and excitement for what
lies ahead for the South County Economic Development Council (SCEDC).
Your dedication and collaborative spirit have made 2023 truly remarkable.
Our decision to bring back the Economic Summit as an in-person
program was met with overwhelming
success. The feedback on the incredible collaboration and enthusiasm
generated by our local South County leaders has been heartening.
This event has set the tone for the positive momentum we've experienced
throughout the year.
Building on the success of our inaugural Binational Forum, we expanded
the program, featuring a headline discussion with our two Consul
Generals. The SCEDC has also introduced the Infrastructure Forum,
a program that has already become a legacy initiative, bringing
together federal, state, and local leaders to impact investment
and decision-making across our region.
In an ambitious effort to effect change and support growth, our
aggressive outreach program reached and assisted over 1,200 businesses
this year. The launch of the $10,000 Recovery Loan Program aimed
to aid local businesses in increasing staffing, expanding their
operations, and addressing various needs.
As we look to 2024, the SCEDC is poised for even greater achievements
in enhancing the quality of life for everyone in South County.
Our team will be expanding to include a full-time Business Outreach
Specialist, a new External Affairs Program, and a Member Services
Coordinator. The launch of the Young Entrepreneurs Program will
provide increased pathways for local students to thrive and remain
in our community through business ownership.
Furthermore, we are excited to announce the first-ever Workforce
and Education Forum, where we will focus on broadening the relationships
between businesses, educators, and employees. Later in the year,
in partnership with Customs and Border Protection, we will conduct
a new Arrival Intercept Survey to statistically inform decision-making.
I want to express my sincere thanks to each of you for investing
in the bright future of South County. Your commitment has been
instrumental in maximizing our decade of renaissance, and I am
confident that together, we will continue to achieve great things.
Wishing you all a joyous holiday season and a prosperous New Year!
Warm regards,
Jim O'Callaghan
