Culture Map Exercise

At a team meeting, share the Last 8% Culture Map, then break your team into pairs, and have them answer the following questions:

  • Where would you put our team on this map?
    • What are we doing well (when it comes to building connection or being courageous)? Is there anyone doing it particularly well?
    • Where could we improve as a team?
    • What impact would this have on our performance and engagement?
    • What commitments can we make to build a Last 8% Culture?

Have pairs report out to the larger group. 

As the team leader, we cannot overstate how important it is for you to stay in listening mode and not get defensive. For some people and teams this exercise can feel like a Last 8% situation itself, where naming an inconvenient truth or speaking up can feel like significant personal risk. No matter what is said, work hard at staying open to what your team is trying to communicate. 

Remember, you own the culture on your team, so model how courageous and connected you want your team to be!
