This past Wednesday, the students of the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) program hosted by the South County Economic Development Council gathered for their final class. It was a bittersweet moment, as they celebrated the culmination of their hard work and
entrepreneurial journey.
As the students filed into the room, they were greeted by a special guest - the Mayor of National City, Ron Morrison. The mayor took the stage as he addressed the aspiring entrepreneurs.
Mayor Morrison commended the students for their unwavering dedication and entrepreneurial spirit, transforming their business ideas into reality. One by one, he presented the students with well-deserved awards, honoring their accomplishments.
The South County EDC remains committed to supporting these budding business leaders and providing them with the resources and knowledge they need to turn their entrepreneurial dreams into successful realities.
On May 22nd, the students in the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA) program hosted by South County EDC had the opportunity to learn more about marketing and branding their businesses from Tenille Otero, a Communications and Public Affairs Advisor from the Otay Water District in the South County region. Tenille provided the young entrepreneurs with valuable insights on how to effectively market and brand their fledgling businesses. The South County EDC is grateful to Tenille Otero from the Otay Water District for sharing her expertise with the YEA participants.
The students were also grateful to have Thomas Welch, Executive Vice President/SBA Department Manager at Neighborhood National Bank come out to help them with their financial goals and planning. The bank's support and guidance on managing the financial aspects of their businesses was greatly appreciated by the young entrepreneurs.
Kindergarten through sixth-grade students attending schools in Otay Water District’s service area are invited to share their artistic skills in its “Being Water Wise is…” Student Art Contest. Participants must create a poster showcasing the value of water for a chance to win prizes and have their art featured in the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California’s 2025 student art calendar.
The deadline to submit artwork is Friday, June 7 2024. For more information please click button below.
We are proud to present the Burnham Center for Community Advancement’s third annual report! In 2023, our second full year in operation, we built on our early cross-sector partnerships to drive meaningful progress on key issues facing our region.
The challenges facing our cross-border region are complex and cannot be solved by any one entity, government, or sector alone.
The public will have a chance to learn more about the County’s $8.48
billion recommended budget at two upcoming community sessions.
Attendees can find out how the budget process works, ask questions
about the recommended budget and give their feedback.
