Why replatforming is the only option for your business:

CUSTOMER SECURITY

Magento is no longer building security patches for M1, and hackers have already found ways around them (as recent news shows).

CART CAPABILITIES

Frankly, Magento 1 is super outdated. That's why Magento created Magento 2 from scratch, rather than making it a simple upgrade. Magento 2 and other SaaS platforms offer new functionality that's built for growing businesses.

BRANDING & DESIGN

Replatforming is a big opportunity for you enhance your design, revitalize your brand and product imagery, or innovate on the overall look and feel of your store. This can be done with the new features, themes, and customization abilities of Magento 2.

Frequently Asked Questions

The following are common questions we've received regarding the #M1EOL awareness initiative:

  • What does "End of Life" mean?

"End of Life" is a term we in the software industry use to describe software that is being discontinued or out-moded. In this context, support for the Magento 1 platform is being discontinued, which can cause serious problems for online stores.

  • Are there any immediate dangers?

While your Magento 1 site isn't going to suddenly crash tomorrow, it does have a timer on it... Adobe is no longer making plugins, security patches, or functionality upgrades to the platform, which can put your business and your customers in harm's way once June of 2020 roles around. We've noticed extensions starting to break already.

  • Can't I just hire freelance M1 developers instead of replatforming?

Most developers who maintain Magento 1 sites have shifted focus to Magento 2 since the End of Life announcement in 2018, making it harder for companies to get help if and when something breaks on your site. In fact, we haven't seen a single new Magento 1 extension built in months...

  • How long do I have to plan?

Magento 1's End of Life is scheduled for June of 2020. It's possible to complete a full site migration in 6 months, but finding an agency will get more difficult as the timeline nears. Other agencies promise a cheap migration can be accomplished in as little as 2 months, but this is a very bare-bones (and frankly dishonest) approach that won't apply to most retailers due to common ecommerce systems and integrations that take much longer to migrate. We suggest you make a plan ASAP.
