COVID-19 Response from our CEO

As the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to disrupt daily life and business operations around the globe, we want to assure you that we are here for you and we will get through this together.

We are financially stable, and we are fortunate that our founding pillar of offering utmost flexibility has enabled us to adapt quickly during this crisis. We are pivoting as necessary to meet the needs of our clients at over 70 locations, whether they are closed, requiring modified services, or fully operational. We want to assure you that we are taking all possible precautions to do our part in minimizing the spread of the virus and keeping our employees and communities safe, including:

  • Limiting the chance for hand-to-food contact by moving to all served food or grab and go and removing self-serve operations (salad bars, soup bars, ice cream machines, beverages, cereal dispensers, etc.)
  • Using all disposables for take-out service: hinged clamshells, cups with covers, wrapped cutlery, wrapped coffee stirrers and straws
  • Removing reusable cups as an option
  • Adhering to non-communal dining: Food is taken out whether it is self-served into take-out containers or pre-made lunches for pick up
  • Using EPA-approved cleaning products that are assured to kill viruses
  • Assigning staff members to continually sanitize all service area surfaces
  • Monitoring dishwashing temperature and sanitizer concentration three times a day
  • Increasing laundry water temperatures
  • Offering more individually-wrapped food options (individually-wrapped bagels, butters, cream cheese, jams, applesauce, granola bars, hummus, energy bites, pastries, etc.)
  • Utilizing single-serving cereal boxes and milk cartons where feasible
  • Offering individually-packaged green salads, grain salads like pasta salad, couscous and quinoa salad
  • Providing safe microwaving instructions for individuals who take heat-and-serve options home
  • At some corporate locations, offering take-home meals so that customers don't have to go to the grocery store

We know that many people around the world, especially hourly workers, are experiencing financial hardship during this period. Our employees make what we do possible, and we are committed to doing well by them. Unfortunately, we are experiencing temporary layoffs at our units. Our teams are working with each laid-off employee to ensure that they will be able to apply for unemployment benefits quickly and easily. We have also created a benefit relief fund to pay out-of-pocket premiums for any employee who is laid off due to coronavirus response plans through June 30, 2020. Benefit programs include: medical, dental, vision, short-term disability, and long-term disability coverage.

This is an unprecedented time, and there is no minimizing the terrible impact of COVID-19. However, we have been so heartened to see communities coming together to provide for the immediate needs of their members. We are doing our part by partnering with community food banks to distribute our unused perishables.
Throughout this fast-changing, dynamic situation, we will continue to be vigilant and informed of safety measures from the Centers for Disease Control and World Health Organization, and we will endeavor to be responsible and timely in making and communicating decisions.

Thank you for your cooperation and trust during this time. We especially want to thank our dedicated team members for their commitment to keeping themselves and everyone we serve safe.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you,

Jim Eickhoff
President & CEO
